I was in a Joe Henderson mood, so I uploaded a piece from Lush Life (The Music of Billy Strayhorn): 'Blood Count'.
Lineup:
- Joe Henderson, tenor
- Wynton Marsalis, trumpet
- Stephen Scott, piano
- Christian McBride, bass
- Gregory Hutchinson, drums
This blog covers the music I play on my Live365 station: Jazz Note NSU. It is devoted to hard bop and avant garde jazz. Here I confess my faith: the center of genius in modern music is jazz; the center of genius in jazz is hard bop, and especially the body of music produced between the early 50's and the mid-60's. And at the center of it all is Miles Davis. This blog is especially aimed at readers who want to build a serious jazz library.

I Love You
John Coltrane/Slowtrane/1957I highly recommend the Fearless Leader box set for any serious Trane traveler. Enjoying a box set like this requires a little bit of time and effort, but it can be richly rewarding. One disadvantage is that it is easy to become somewhat contemptuous of the actual albums. Lush Life was probably assembled by the record people. I have no idea what input Trane had on the mix of tunes.
